Cut-Out Words

Our Cut-Out Words activities are available in two options: solid line words and tracing words.  If your child is old enough to write out the verse on his/her own, we suggest using the solid line option and offering your child a separate sheet of paper to practice writing out the verse if you choose. If your child is younger, you may want to select the tracing words option and have your child trace the appropriate words [see below].

These activity pages include the entire verse and should be modified for those who are learning memory verses at the intermediate or beginner levels. Once printed, each word should be traced [if applicable] and then cut out. Remove any words that are not included in the level you or your child are learning. Then mix the words up and have your child arrange them in the correct order.

You could time each other as you structure your memory verses. Keep a log of each time and see how quickly each family member can arrange the verse. You could make a game out of racing one another to see who can construct the verse the fastest.  Be thoughtful about the personalities within your family. If competition is something EVERYONE enjoys, these suggestions may be fun and beneficial for you; however, for others it may be more productive to complete this activity individually and without any pressure of being timed.

Here are a couple other suggestions. Each family member may take turns placing the next word until the memory verse is completed. Or you can create magnetic memory verse words by adding sheet magnets to the back of each word; invite your kids to construct their memory verses on the fridge.

Any activity that provides repetition will be helpful as you commit these Bible passages to memory. The purpose of our Cut-Out Words is for students [both kids and grown-ups] to practice structuring a memory verse. This activity will familiarize students with the words in each verse, and develop recognition of word placement and sentence structure within the verse. You may complete this activity from memory if you are able to, or use your memory verse cards if you need some help.
